Blog number 3 - 21st April 2025

A chilly, wet, morning for Lee and I to check the observation hive today, but it was necessary. Bee-Yonce now laying across 5 frames and there was  larvae in drone cells and a queen cup on one frame. Took out one frame of stores, replacing it with a frame of fresh wax foundation to help make more space for Bee-Yonce to lay more eggs to produce more bees. The hive is really looking busy. It was a challenging inspection, for both bees and humans, but we got them sorted in time to meet their Bank Holiday audience.

Lee kindly filmed a video of Bee-Yonce laying on the comb, today - we'll get it attached to this post soon! See how the female bees are paying her attention, grooming, feeding and licking her. They are picking up her special scent to pass around the hive. This reassures all the bees that they have a healthy queen in residence and everything is going well.
